GAME SUMMARY
Although the score might not reflect it, the Warriors
played their most complete team game
all year. Playing a man short because of a team
suspension and with two starters slowed by
nagging injuries, the guys outplayed last year's state
runner-ups for three out of four quarters.
A second quarter lasp proved to be the undoing for the
Warriors. After surrendering a quick
opening drive touchdown to the Patriots, the Warriors
used the power running of Lakamya
Shelvin and Sam Sanders to drive down the field to the
one yard line. Matthew Carswell
took the ball into the end zone on a one yard plunge.
Ephraim White added the extra point to
make the score 8-7. After a second touchdown put
Tyler Street up 16-7, Sam Sanders took the
ensuing kick off back an electrifying 77 yards down to
the one yard line. On the next play, Shelvin
took the ball in for a touchdown and after a missed
extra point, the MCA trailed 16-13. The
Patriots scored 22 unanswered points in the second
quarter to take a 38-13 lead into the half.
Although Tyler Street scored twice more in the second
half, the Warriors clearly dominated the
remainder of the game. MCA scored twice on
touchdowns by Shelvin and White, but it was the
Warrior defense that stepped up their game. Led by
Carswell and Shelvin who took turns
delivering bone crushing tackles, the defense played a
very inspired second half. Kudos to
both the offense and the defense for a very well played
game. Interesting side note; Robert
Cushard executed the first ever drop kick for a two
point conversion in school history.
